Rennes has ended their two-game winless run with a comfortable victory over Angers in Ligue 1 on Sunday. The match was a battle of the two top teams in France's top-flight, but Rennes emerged victorious thanks to goals from forwards Théo Thaugaud and Benjamin Truffert.

Théo Thaugaud scored the first goal for Rennes in the 34th minute after a well-placed cross from Benjamin Truffert found him unmarked at the back post. Théo Thaugaud then added his second goal in the 85th minute, firing home from close range after receiving a pass from Florian Thauvin.

The result sees Rennes move up to fifth place in the table, just three points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain. Meanwhile, Angers remain in ninth place, four points adrift of safety.

Rennes coach Bruno Genesio praised his team's performance, saying "It was a tough game, but we managed to get the win. We worked hard and were patient, and it paid off."

Angers manager Christophe Galtier also acknowledged his side's defeat, saying "We knew that it would be a difficult game, but we still had some chances. It's not a good day for us, but I'm proud of the way our players fought until the last minute."
