Shenhua FC has announced the signing of Chinese coach Li Jianlian to join their coaching staff for the upcoming season.

The move comes after Shenhua finished third in the Chinese Super League (CSL) and Li was appointed as their new head coach for the upcoming campaign. The agreement is reportedly worth around $15 million, with Li taking on the role of assistant coach at Shenhua's academy.

Li is a former player from China who played for Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou R&F before joining the United States national team. He was also part of the U.S. Olympic basketball team that won gold in Rio de Janeiro last year.

Li's appointment comes as a surprise given his lack of experience at the highest level of Chinese football. However, he has already made a name for himself in the country's top leagues, winning two domestic titles with Guangzhou and three league championships with Shanghai.
